Dead Cat - A Quantum Physics Card Game

Created by He Does Not Throw Dice

Dead Cat is a fast paced game about Schrodinger's cat. Bet with your friends if the cat is alive or dead – but don't forget to peek!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

More Quantum mechanics, More Dead Cats
over 9 years ago – Mon, Oct 31, 2016 at 05:44:39 PM

Hey all,

We made it! The last stretch goal is fulfilled. You unlocked the Brief History of Quantum Physics booklet. But wait, what is that? Like a good Marvel movie there is another one coming up after the end.

We calculated a little bit and were able to squeeze in another stretch goal. You probably already guessed it: individual dead cat arts. This means if we reach the stretch goal each card in Dead Cat will be unique! No more asking yourself if quantum physics finally dice you to insanity because you see the same dead cat over and over again.

The new stretch goal will be at £11,500. The gap to the previous level is bigger as we need to create 8 additional artworks instead of the planned four (fifth player plus dead cat cards).

ADD-ONS
Some of you asked for add-ons. We are going to use Backerkit to set up a pledge manager. In this way you will be able to add artwork prints as well as t-shirts to your pledge. This will also include the posters you were able to see at our booth in Essen.

If you wish to have more add-ons, let us know and we’ll see if it’s possible to add them.

So once again, thank you all,
Elisa & Luca

AHHHH Zombie Cats!
over 9 years ago – Sat, Oct 29, 2016 at 02:51:59 PM

Judgment day is upon us. Dead cats have risen from their boxes, wandering the streets in search for physicists to take revenge. The only way to protect yourself is to get a box of the patented Dead Cat - A quantum physics card game within the next three days.

Hey all,

Elisa and I hope your search for a costume was successful and the pumpkins didn’t give you a hard time while you disemboweled them.

We have three more days to go and we need your help to reach the last stretch goal. If it is by posting an update on Facebook or making it the main party conversation every bit helps.

So keep an eye on stray cats. They may be dead.

On other news, Dead Cat is getting more international traction. Dice and Sorcery, Hungarian blog about gaming, just published their review of Dead Cat:

"A perfect example that quantum mechanics could form a great game mechanism. Lovely artwork, which makes you always want to peek at the next card"

"It is a bit as Schrödinger itself would wave to you from the pages of the rule book!"

You can check it out here.

We wish you a horrific weekend,

Elisa & Luca

5th player is the charm
over 9 years ago – Wed, Oct 26, 2016 at 12:50:32 AM

 Hey ho,

You probably have already seen it but yesterday we reached our second stretch goal. Now you will be able to play Dead Cat with five players! Elisa has already started working on four new cat artworks. Additionally the box will come with three more score counters and an extra die as well as a fifth dead cat card.

What’s up next?
With so many cats in the box we need to look at alternative ways to keep them packed up nicely. Our method of choice is to transform them into waves… no wait... small particles! We are confused. So let us take a step back and actually delve into the matter of quantum physics: Our next stretch goal will add an educational value to the game in form of a small booklet containing information around quantum physics.

We hope you are as excited as we are solving one of the most complicated theories in physics on just a few pages.

Until next time,

Elisa & Luca

Lizards and Spiel

"From my own opinion, that of someone who really isn’t truly grasping the Schrodinger’s Cat experiment, the best thing to come out of it is this superb quick fire card game from, He Does Not Throw Dice. What we get is a game that is quick to learn, easy to teach, but near impossible to put down."

Hey all,

The quote above is from Neil Bason he wrote a review for Lizard Lounge - and man, he is a hell of a writer. If you want to get hyped for Dead Cat even more have a look at his article. We deny any responsibility of sudden urges to increase your pledge level :)

Essen recap
Our good friend and collaborator He Xiang, who was with us in Essen put together a video from the footage created at our booth during this year’s Spiel. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Stretch Goals
During the last week, we received a lot of suggestions from you regarding new stretch goals. We contacted our printer to verify the printing costs and will add them when he comes back to us. In case you haven’t checked the page recently we are less than £100 away from adding a fifth player so share the projects with your friends so we can all enjoy one more player.

Art Printouts
We also heard you regarding the print outs. We figured out a way how we can produce them cost effective and in high quality. Unfortunately, we can’t just add another reward level for the printouts due to the way Kickstarter works. Instead, we will use the BackerKit software so you can add a printout when you confirm your pledge after the campaign ended.

So all the best and may the cat be with you,

Elisa & Luca

Better Cards, check!
over 9 years ago – Wed, Oct 19, 2016 at 11:59:44 PM

 Hey all,

We reached our first Stretch Goal! Only two days after releasing it we already hit £7.500 and unlocked the 310 gsm Ivorycore cards. Thank you all!

The next stretch goal will be the addition of a fifth player. This means that 1) an additional die, 2) an additional set of score tokens and 3) four additional artworks will be added to the game, bringing the number of alive cats to 20. Elisa is already looking forward to come up with new ideas for amazing cat creations.

Thanks everybody,

Elisa & Luca
